The PAFF is the "Quintessential Black festival" - and BUSA is invited!

January 18, 2019

We are thrilled to announce that the first film of our Belonging series, which features Michael D. McCarty, has been selected for the Pan African Film & Arts Festival!

"Not only are we the largest and most prestigious black film festival in America, but PAFF-LA is the largest Black History Month event in the US during the month of February. PAFF is the quintessential Black festival."

In its 27th year, the PAFF will showcase over 150 new films and more than 100 artists from all over the world, all promoting the diversity and complexity of people with African heritage.  The festival is dedicated to racial tolerance through the exhibition of film, art and creative expression.

We are so proud of the screenings we've held and the festivals we've participated in over this past year, but I think our film about Michael's journey has found the perfect audience!

"It is PAFF’s goal to present and showcase the broad spectrum of Black creative works, particularly those that reinforce positive images and help destroy negative stereotypes."

PAFF's mission aligns perfectly with ours - while we hope our series will spark authentic  connection through inter-generational and cross-cultural dialogue, they believe "film and art can lead to better understanding and foster communication between peoples of diverse cultures, races, and lifestyles, while at the same time serve as a vehicle to initiate dialogue on the important issues of our times".

We are so honored that Michael's story will be shown alongside so many other great works.  It's yet another amazing stepping stone on the adventure of our Belonging project.  We'll keep you updated as we learn more about the other titles and the festival itself.  Maybe you'll be in LA Feb 7-18th, and you can check it out!

A big thank you to our community - we wouldn't be here without your support!  Learn more about PAFF here :)

Our brand new poster that will be mounted in the PAFF theater.
